What are PRP and processed bone-marrow concentrate?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is prepared from a sample of your own blood. The blood is processed to concentrate platelets and other components, and the resulting preparation is injected into a targeted area when clinically appropriate.

Processed bone-marrow concentrate begins with bone marrow collected from the same patient. The aspirate is processed on the same day to concentrate cellular and other components before it is administered to the selected treatment area. This is an autologous procedure, meaning the material comes from the patient receiving the treatment.

Who may be considered for treatment?

Dr. Fahed performs a history, physical examination, and appropriate diagnostic review before recommending treatment. PRP or autologous processed bone-marrow concentrate may be discussed for selected tendon, ligament, joint, or other musculoskeletal conditions. Candidacy depends on the diagnosis, overall health, previous treatment, medications, and individual goals.

What should patients understand before treatment?
